Privacy Policy
The short version: your text is never sent anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.
How your text is processed
Everything you type or paste into the editor stays in your browser's memory. The counting, timing and frequency analysis are JavaScript functions that run on your device. No request carries your text, and there is no server-side component that receives, stores or analyses it.
This is verifiable rather than a promise: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the network panel, and type into the editor. Nothing is sent.
What is stored on your device
A small number of preferences are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them between visits:
- Your theme choice (light, dark or system).
- Your reading and speaking speed settings.
- Your selected mode, word goal and character targets.
- A single flag recording that you have visited before.
What is not stored
The contents of the editor are never written to local storage, session storage, cookies or any other persistent location. Closing the tab discards them.
Analytics
If analytics is enabled on this deployment, it records that certain actions happened — a tool was opened, a word goal was created, a copy or download was used, a language was changed. These events carry the event name, the page path and a timestamp.
They never carry your text, any part of it, or any value derived from it beyond a coarse size band (for example "under 300 characters"). There is no account identifier, no cross-site identifier and no advertising profile.
Advertising
This site carries advertising from Google AdSense. Ads appear in three fixed positions — below the tool, between informational sections, and near the footer. None is placed inside, above or overlapping the editor: the component that renders the editor has no way to render an advertisement, which is a structural guarantee rather than a policy.
Being straight with you about what that costs: AdSense is third-party code from Google, and it runs on these pages. It is never handed your text, and this site never transmits your text to anyone — you can confirm that in your browser's network panel. But any script running in a page can read that page, so if you want an environment with no third-party code at all, open the tool with a content blocker. Everything will keep working, because the counting never depended on the network.
The Content-Security-Policy served with every page names the specific Google advertising hosts permitted to run and blocks every other third-party script, so no other tag can be added without a reviewed change to the code.
Advertising cookies, and how to switch them off
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or to other sites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.
None of this is required in order to use the tool, and all of it can be switched off:
- Opt out of personalised advertising from Google at myadcenter.google.com.
- Opt out of third-party vendors' advertising cookies at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu.
- Or block the advertising script entirely with a content blocker — every counting feature keeps working, because none of it uses the network.
Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
Before personalised advertising cookies are set, visitors in these regions are shown a consent message served through a Google-certified consent management platform. Your choice is recorded by that platform and applied to the ads you are shown; you can reopen it at any time from the privacy link the message provides.
Declining consent does not restrict the tool. Every feature on this site works identically with or without advertising consent, because the counting has never depended on the network.
Accounts and children
There are no accounts, so no personal information is collected at sign-up, because there is no sign-up. The site is suitable for school-age users; because it collects no personal data, there is no profile to build about anyone.
Who operates this site, and how to reach them
Word Count Kit is operated by Word Wise. If this policy changes in a way that affects how your text is handled, the change will be described on this page. Questions, including requests about data, go to the address on the contact page.
